Vonn crashed out of the women's downhill event in Cortina after her right ski pole clipped an outside gate shortly before the first timing point. The contact forced the 2010 Olympic champion off balance, and resulted in her hitting the ground hard before tumbling down the course. 

She was subsequently airlifted to hospital via medical helicopter after receiving treatment on-site. Vonn was attempting to become the oldest skier, man or woman, to win an Olympic medal in alpine skiing.

The 41-year-old had already made the remarkable decision to compete in the downhill final just nine days after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee during a crash at a World Cup event.

After her crash on Sunday, the US Ski and Snowboard Team issued a statement confirming that Vonn was in a 'stable condition' and undergoing treatment. 

She was transported to the Ca' Foncello Hospital in Cortina, with Sky Sports reporter Geraint Thomas claiming there were initial concerns that she may have to be airlifted to a bigger facility near the city of Verona. 

The hospital have now released a statement confirming that Vonn has undergone an 'orthopaedic operation' to a stabilise a left leg fracture. They add that she is being treated by a 'multidisciplinary team'.

Chief of sport for US Ski and Snowboard, Anouk Patty, has stated that Vonn will be 'OK' but anticipates a lengthy recovery process for the skiing legend. "She'll be OK, but it's going to be a bit of a process," Patty told reporters. 

"This sport's brutal and people need to remember when they're watching, these athletes are throwing themselves down a mountain and going really, really fast." Vonn's US team-mate, Breezy Johnson, won gold in the women's downhill after the event was paused for around 20 minutes following the crash.

She told reporters that, according to her coach, Vonn had been 'cheering for me' from the medical helicopter. "Her coach said she was cheering for me in the helicopter, so I hope for the best for her," Johnson said (via People). 

Vonn crashed out of the women's downhill final in Cortina shortly before the first timing line. The 2010 Olympic champion clipped one of the gates with her right ski pole, which caused her to twist off balance and hit the ground at high speed, landing on the back of her skis. 

Vonn tumbled down the course and appeared to hit her head before she came to a halt. Medical staff immediately attended to the 41-year-old, before she was airlifted away from the course via medical helicopter.

Vonn had been looking to become the oldest skier, man or woman, to win an Olympic medal in alpine skiing. Her dreams were dealt a significant blow just nine days before the downhill final, when she tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee after crashing in a World Cup event in Crans-Montana. 

But despite the severity of the injury, Vonn declared that she would compete at the Olympics, and completed two training runs to allow her to ski in the final. The final itself ended in heartbreak for the US sporting legend, but the violent nature of the crash - coupled with her already torn ACL - meant attention immediately turned towards Vonn's condition. 

After several hours of speculation, the US Ski and Snowboard Team have issued a statement to confirm that Vonn is in a 'stable condition' in hospital.

"Lindsey Vonn sustained an injury, but is in stable condition and in good hands with a team of American and Italian physicians," the statement reads. Speaking on NBC, Vonn's sister Karin Kildow gave an update on the 41-year-old shortly after she was airlifted away from the course, admitting that her family had been given little information at that stage. 

"It was scary because when you start to see the stretchers being put out, it's not a good sign but, we were just saying, she just dared greatly and she put it all out there, so it's really hard to see. But we just really hope she's okay.

"I don't really know what happens from her, obviously she was airlifted out, so I think we'll probably just wait. "She does have all of her surgeons and her PT staff here and her doctors, so I'm sure they'll give us a report, and we'll meet her at whatever hospital she's at. 

"I think she's being evaluated right now, is the only thing we've heard." Sky Sports News reporter Geraint Thomas subsequently reported that Vonn had been transported to a facility in Cortina. "From what I'm hearing, via colleagues at Team USA, Lindsey Vonn is in Cortina, and is being treated there," Thomas said. "She is in hospital, being tended to by the medical teams there."

Thomas claims there were concerns that Vonn would have to be airlifted to a bigger facility near Verona. "We don't want to read too much into it, but it is good news that she is still being treated in Cortina, rather than being airlifted to a bigger hospital further down the valley to a city like Verona, which is probably the closest city to Cortina," Thomas added. 

Despite the Games technically getting underway on Wednesday (February 4), following Friday’s (February 6) opening ceremony, the event is now well and truly in full flow with host nation Italy currently joint leading the medal table alongside Japan and Norway. 

As ever, the Olympics provides opportunity for little-known competitors to make a name for themselves, and it’s fair to say American figure skater Ilia Malinin certainly did that. Twenty-one-year-old Malinin landed the first backflip at a Winter Games since 1998 at the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Saturday during the men’s short program team event, which earned him a score of 98.00. 

A backflip was last landed by French skater Surya Bonaly at the Nagano Games 28 years ago – although the move was classed as being illegal at the time and she was subsequently penalised. And you’d have to go back 50 years to 1976 for the last time a legal back flip was landed at a Winter Games. 

American Terry Kubicka performed the flip at the Innsbruck Games before it was banned by the International Skating Union (ISU) the following year, being deemed too dangerous. ISU legalised the backflip in 2024. 

Despite impressing fans, Malinin could only finish second behind Japan's Yuma Kagiyama on Saturday.

Fans were quick to offer their thoughts on the stunning move on social media. One said: "Ilia Malinin is doing the free skate today and I fear I won’t be able to think about anything else until then." Another added: "He’s as cold as the ice he skates on." 

A third commented: "Surya did it and landed on one foot." As a fourth claimed: "Bloke is surely making it up as he goes along."

The vice president, 41, didn't get the warmest of welcomes from sports fans who packed out the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy, on Friday (6 February). Although athletes from the US were greeted with cheers as they walked out, Vance was booed when cameras cut to show him and his wife, Usha, proudly waving their country's flag. 

There were boos, jeers and a bit of applause from the crowd - but Americans watching from home didn't get to see this, as it was reportedly cut from NBC’s broadcast. The four athletes representing Israel at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina also received a similar reception when they emerged during the opening ceremony.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, Kirsty Coventry, had urged spectators at the opening ceremony to 'be respectful' earlier this week. But this warning apparently fell on deaf ears, given the reaction that Vance and Israel's athletes received. 

Mark Adams, a spokesperson for the IOC, has since said of the jeers towards Vance: "In terms of the athletes and the teams, whatever background, whatever country they're from, I don't think we like to see booing, we want to see sportsperson-like behaviour from everyone. 

It's important that we support our athletes." The US president has also chimed in on the debate surrounding the crowd's reaction to Vance, saying he was 'surprised' that the politician was met with jeers.

While speaking to reporters onboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump said: "It’s surprising because people like him. Well, I mean, he is in a foreign country, in all fairness. But he doesn’t get booed in this country.” Which isn't exactly true...as Vance has been booed on American soil plenty of times before.

He was booed while making a speech at the International Association of Fire Fighters in August 2024, as well as in March last year when he rocked up to a gig at the Kennedy Center around 25 minutes late.

Vance's wife, Usha, shared a snap of the pair attending the opening ceremony on Instagram alongside the caption: "What a thrilling start to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan! Go Team USA - we’re rooting for you!" Comically, the comment section of the post was filled with wisecracks from social media users about her and her husband being booed.

The founding member of the rock band was surrounded by his loved ones, including wife Jennifer when he died. A statement posted on 3 Doors Down's social media stated Arnold died 'peacefully' in his sleep after a 'courageous battle with cancer'.

The statement continued: "He was a devoted husband to Jennifer, and his kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends. 

"The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and kindly asks that their privacy be respected. "He will be deeply missed and forever remembered." The Kryptonite hitmaker shared in May last year he'd been diagnosed with kidney cancer in an emotional video posted to Instagram.

"I'd been sick a couple of weeks ago and went to the hospital and got checked out," he said at the time. "I actually got the diagnosis that I have a clear cell renal carcinoma that has metastasized into my lung... and that’s stage four, and that's not real good."

The devastating diagnosis lead to 3 Doors Down cancelling their upcoming gigs. Arnold concluded the video: “I'd love for you to lift me up in your prayers every chance you get," adding: "I think it’s time for me to go listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit, right?" Fans of the band will know that's a reference to the classic track that's all about resilience.

On Friday, the eyes of the sporting world turned to Milan, Italy, as Andrea Bocelli and Mariah Carey performed during the opening ceremony for the Milan-Cortina Winter Games. During the 2026 Games, 92 nations will take part, including the US, whose delegation was fronted by Vice President Vance.

This came after thousands of Anti-ICE protesters gathered in Milan to oppose the US, despite President Donald Trump not being in attendance at the Games. 

Ahead of the opening ceremony, IOC President Kirsty Coventry was pressed on Vance’s presence and whether she expected Team USA to receive a negative reception during the games.

“I hope that the opening ceremony is seen by everyone as an opportunity to be respectful of each other,” she said. But it appeared that not everyone got the memo based on the boos received by Vance and the American delegation on Friday. 

The IOC has since responded with spokesperson Mark Adams addressing the incident during a press conference on Saturday (February 7). "What I would say from the IOC point of view is with the next Games coming up in Los Angeles, we are super happy that the US administration is so engaged with the Games here and going forward,” Adams said. 

“That's a great thing for the Olympic movement. We are largely a sports organisation, and seeing the US team cheered as they were by the audience, fair play, that was fantastic, so very happy. "In general, at sporting events we like to see fair play, but in terms of having a good relationship with the administration, that's good news for us."

The IOC also appealed for sporting conduct from all attendees when asked about the booing of Israeli athletes. "In terms of the athletes and the teams, whatever background, whatever country they're from, I don't think we like to see booing, we want to see sportsperson-like behaviour from everyone,” Adams continued.

“It's important that we support our athletes. "The whole idea, or one of the ideas of the Olympic Movement, is that the athletes shouldn't be punished for whatever their governments have done, and I think that's really important, that we see the athletes and athletic performance for what that says about humanity. 

"I know the Italian supporters love their sport. I think when they start seeing amazing performances, whatever nationality, they will cheer those performances."

Back in 2024, the likes of Rob Kardashian, the youngest of the four Kardashian siblings, made a rare appearance on The Kardashians. In the episode, Hulu viewers watched as he and his older sister, Khloé, spoke on the phone about sperm donations of all things.

Despite his sister's suggestion, Rob reiterated his claim that he 'can’t [f*ck] anymore' before asking Khloé: "What don’t you get?" Clearly not fazed by his response, Khloé, who shares two children, daughter True and son Tatum, with her ex-partner, NBA player Tristan Thompson, shot back: "OK, well, we have time to prepare her womb, so you have time to prepare your penis.

Khloé then offered viewers a confessional debrief, saying: "My brother is just … like he’s just disgusting, and we can’t ever just talk normal. But I don’t think there’s a problem."

Cori Broadus, 26, shared a post to her Instagram Stories on January 31, sharing that her 10-month-old daughter, Codi Dreaux, had passed away. Cori wrote: "Monday; I lost the love of my life. My Codi," followed by an emoji of an angel wing.

Her fiancé and Cori's father, Wayne Deuce, also paid tribute to the couple's daughter with his own social media post. “I been the saddest since u left me Codi Dreaux," he wrote, with the post also showing a picture of him holding his baby daughter.

The American President, 79, has been flooded with accusations that he... ahem, had a little accident while speaking to reporters last week, after a video taken during a press conference has gone viral online. 

Now, while there's, of course, nothing proving this happened whatsoever, the internet has done what it does best and ran away with the idea after someone suggested it. The quick dismissal of people from the room paired with a few sour faces behind Trump is what really sparked the whispers. 

The video in question was taken during a White House press conference last week (29 January), which saw the Republican sign an executive order aimed at addiction recovery efforts. As we say, in the video, Trump seemingly puts an abrupt end to the political meeting and signals for reporters to leave the room.

After catching light of the clip, people rushed to social media to share their reactions, with many absolutely convinced that Trump suffered a seriously awkward bowel blunder, claiming they heard him ‘sh*rt’, convinced it was the reason why everybody left with such haste.

One X user penned: “I know there's a lot going on right now competing for our attention, but I need you all to see that Trump sh*rted himself on live TV so loud you can hear it and the aides had to rush all the press out of the room.” Another declared: “So yeah... While the prospect of a world leader ‘pooing himself’ in front of the whole world may be a funny prospect to some, it didn’t actually happen. White House spokesman Steven Cheung has confirmed that the rumour making its rounds all across the internet was simply ‘not true’. 

Fact-checking site Snopes reports that the video was ‘authentic and showed no signs of digital manipulation or content generated by artificial intelligence’. However, the outlet adds ‘there was no evidence to support the claim that Trump pooped himself during the meeting’. So there you have it, mystery solved. 

The Canadian singer, 31, and Rhode businesswoman, 29, looked like the perfect celebrity 'it' couple as they stormed the red carpet at the annual music awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (1 Febraury). Hailey donned a strapless black dress from Alaïa that boasted sheer cutouts on the skirt and thighs, while her hubby sported a matching oversized black suit. 

On the red carpet, the couple posed and linked arms, with Justin wrapping his arm around his wife as they faced the cameras, before heading inside to watch the ceremony and perform his song 'YUKON'. As we say, a body language expert has weighed in on the famous duo's latest appearance at the Grammys, pointing out that they have 'no real desire to perform for the cameras' and gave a 'high-impact look and a lesson in A-list cool'. 

Body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail that Hailey and Justin's 'form of silent communication on the red carpet is sparse and unusual'. She explained: "Their tactile behaviour increased as they went from spot to spot. At the start, they posed without touching and there was only one moment of touch between them when Hailey bent to straighten her hem and held onto his bicep briefly for balance."

"By the second pose she had linked her hand into his arm, and they were holding hands later on, but they seem not to be using eye contact at all." The expert said both parties 'looked too cool to smile' but Justin did at one point 'hike his mouth upward to suggest a desire to be seen as more friendly."

However, James believes the celebrity couple weren't 'performing' for the audience or using 'power-couple cheese'. She revealed: "The lack of any show-pony rituals like kissing or draping suggests no real desire to perform for the cameras emotionally apart from to look both together and cool."

Later adding: "Following what have at times looked like his "wilderness" years when his signature look has been baggy casuals and a head-bowed set of aversion signals towards the cameras, Justin arrived on the red carpet with Hailey showing strong signs of repair in terms of confidence and style.

"The couple looked elegant here, and although Justin did at first follow Hailey out with his head slightly bowed, he moved on to adopt a pose that made him look like the one in control of the moment, with his legs splayed in a pose of alpha confidence and his hands in his trouser pocket." 

It comes just after lip reader Nicola Hickling spoke to The Mirror about Hailey and Justin's red carpet interactions, alleging that he the latter told his wife: "Don’t grab me." The report comment took place after Hailey reached out for Bieber's arm while posing for papparrazi, prompting him to shake her off before walking away.

The Night Agent star, who leads the Netflix thriller as Peter Sutherland, sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday (February 3). The late night talk show host was eager to question Basso as to why he'd deleted his Instagram - a move fans had quickly clocked on to. 

Turns out, the 31-year-old had a sudden realization after mindlessly consuming a picture taken from the top of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. And no - it wasn't that the picture was AI-generated, in this instance. "I was doom-scrolling and I saw a picture from the top of Mount Everest. And I was like, ‘Wow, this is beautiful,'" Basso explained.

“And then I stopped and I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ Why do I now know what that looks like? “And it p****d me off that that guy stepped over literal bodies to get up there to see that view, and now I was seeing it from my couch. 

“And it bothered me that I had that image in my head now without any effort to earn that visual. And I was like, ‘Dude, screw this whole platform.’” Roughly 800 people attempt to climb Mount Everest, located on the Nepal-China border, each year, as per Ian Taylor Trekking. 

Towering more than 29,000 feet above sea level, it's an incredibly dangerous feat. At least 300 people have died attempting the trek since records began, the BBC reports. 

In fact, Everest's 26,000 feet mark is dubbed the death zone, because there's insufficient oxygen for humans to survive long-term, making even the most simple of manoeuvres feel impossible.

As Hillary Step Treks writes: "The body starts feeling numb... cells stop functioning and die cell by cell, minute by minute." There are also multiple reports of people who've climbed Everest and seen dead bodies for themselves. 

So while the footage from the mountain's peak might be awe-inspiring, the reality is harsh and grim. With that in mind, Basso maintained that he 'shouldn't know' what the top of Everest looks like, adding: "Is that not insane to anyone else?” Fallon pointed out that Basso wouldn't be able to 'unsee' the scenery, as Basso responded: "No. That's what I'm saying. 

If you make it to the top of Mount Everest, that should be yours. He literally stepped over bodies of people. That's all they wanted to see. “And now I'm sitting there going, ‘Huh-huh,'" he reflected. "That's whack.”

Basso added that he wants to 'mind his own business.' "That's the non-consensual images on the Discover page. Stop showing me these things," he said. Gently challenging the actor, Fallon asked if he’d ever seen a movie. 

“Yeah, but I asked to see it. I pressed ‘play’ to see the movie," Basso responded. "I didn't ask to see that view. It was just shown to me.” It's a stark reminder to question what you're actually consuming on your next mindless doom-scroll.

The songwriter was proudly standing next to Eilish at the 2026 Grammys as she accepted the Song of the Year award for ‘Wildflower’. Finneas, 28, co-wrote and produced the track from the 24-year-old star's hit album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

While onstage, he watched on as she dedicated her speech to inequality in light of the Trump administration’s ICE takeover of several cities in the US, resulting in the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Eilish declared: "No one is illegal on stolen land. And yeah, it’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now.

"I feel really hopeful in this room and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting and our voices really do matter and the people matter and erm, f**k ICE." In retaliation, some critics appear to have called out the singer's ‘stolen land’ claims, which Finneas took issue with.

In light of the release of the Epstein files, which has seen millions of documents showing the names of many men in high places contained within, the songwriter hit back at the haters. "Seeing a lot of very powerful old white men outraged about what my 24-year-old sister said during her acceptance speech," Finneas wrote on Threads. 

"We can literally see your names in the Epstein files." While a lot of people were debating Eilish's comments, others took aim at reports that her Los Angeles mansion is said to sit on land that used to belong to the Tongva tribe. 

"Oh, gee, this ‘stolen land’ nonsense again? Maybe she should step up and forfeit her Southern California mansion since it is supposedly on ‘stolen land’," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis posted on X. 

Meanwhile, Senator Mike Lee wrote: "Any white person who does a public ‘stolen land’ acknowledgement should immediately give his or her land to native Americans. Otherwise they don’t mean it. Also, I’m pretty sure they don’t mean it."

Lee voted against pressuring the government to release the files, however, it hasn’t been reported that either politician is named in the documents. Finneas didn't include names in his response, and it's worth noting that being mentioned in the files does not suggest they were part of the criminal activities. 

A representative for the Tongva tribe previously told MailOnline: "As the First People of the greater Los Angeles basin, we do understand that her home is situated in our ancestral land. "Eilish has not contacted our tribe directly regarding her property, we do value the instance when Public Figures provide visibility to the true history of this country." 

They continued: "It is our hope that in future discussions, the tribe can explicitly be referenced to ensure the public understands that the greater Los Angeles basin remains Gabrieleno Tongva territory." The spokesperson went on to say that they 'partnered closely with the Recording Academy to author the official Land Acknowledgment statement shared during Grammy week and at the Premiere Ceremony'.

They concluded by saying: "The Recording Academy has been an incredible partner to our tribe, and we look forward to continuing the relationship to ensure the voices of the First People of this land are heard and honoured. Ekwa Shem - We are here!"

Both Good and Pretti were fatally shot by federal agents in two separate incidents last month in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Good was shot on January 7 while behind the wheel of her car as she drove away from ICE officers who were carrying out raids in her neighborhood, while Pretti was taking part in an ICE protest on January 24 when he was tackled to the ground by officers and shot.

His death has since been ruled as a homicide by a medical examiner. Donald Trump has addressed both matters and appeared to place blame on both Pretti and Good for the violence that broke out — but now, Trump seemingly developed a more sympathetic point of view.

Speaking with NBC News, the president said he was 'not happy' about what happened. "[Pretti] was not an angel and [Good] was not an angel," Trump said. "You know, you look at some tapes from back, but still, I'm not happy with what happened there. 

Nobody could be happy and ICE wasn't happy either." The POTUS went on to share his thoughts on who 'feels worse than anybody' about the shootings, with his comments marking a contrast on what he's said previously. 

What Trump previously said about Renee Good

In a Truth Social post shared the day after Good's passing, he said of the footage of the moments leading up to the 37-year-old mother being shot: "The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing, and resisting, who then violently, wilfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense."

"We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate," he added. 

What Trump previously said about Alex Pretti

Speaking after Pretti's shooting, Trump alleged that he'd been brandishing a gun; something which has since been refuted by witnesses. He wrote online: "This is the gunman’s gun, loaded (with two additional full magazines!), and ready to go – What is that all about? Where are the local Police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE Officers? The Mayor and the Governor called them off? 

"It is stated that many of these Police were not allowed to do their job, that ICE had to protect themselves — Not an easy thing to do!" In a separate comment, he hailed Pretti as an 'agitator and, perhaps, insurrectionist'. 

Trump went on to say of the footage that emerged of Pretti involved in an altercation with ICE in the days leading up to his death: "Alex Pretti’s stock has gone way down with the just released video of him screaming and spitting in the face of a very calm and under control ICE Officer, and then crazily kicking in a new and very expensive government vehicle, so hard and violent, in fact, that the tail light broke off in pieces." 

Trump now claims it 'should not have happened' 

The POTUS continued: "It should have not happened. It was very sad to me, a very sad incident. I think they were both sad. "And you know who feels worse about it than anybody? The people of ICE."
