Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross has been identified as the man who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good as she drove away in Minneapolis earlier this week.

The killing in Minnesota of Good, a mom-of-three who was unarmed, in a car filled with stuffed toys, has sparked a national conversation around whether masked and armed ICE agents are making communities less safe, with local Mayor Jacob Frey telling ICE to 'get the f**k out of' the city in the aftermath.

Fresh video footage of the incident, allegedly from the officer's phone who shot Good dead, shows the mom smiling to the ICE agent and saying cheerily 'That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you', as she attempts to leave the scene.

The camera pans to Good's wife, who is on the street protesting against ICE's presence in the city.

Then, when Good attempts to drive away, the officer tells her to stop and steps towards the driver's door, but as she pulls away, he fires multiple shots through the side window at Good and calls her a 'f***ing b*tch'. Despite the widespread outrage about the agency's tactics following Good's death, with many calling it murder, President Trump spoke out in defence of the ICE agent, penning on Truth Social at the time: "The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense."

Who was the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good?

Less than 48 hours on from Good's death, the Minnesota Star Tribune identified the shooter as veteran Jonathan Ross - who served in Iraq in 2004 and 2005.

43-year-old Ross, who was seen walking away from the shooting apparently unharmed, was identified by the paper as an active shooter and firearms instructor, as well as an ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations employee.

In addition to ICE, the military vet is also a member of the local SWAT team, as well as the FBI's anti-terrorism task force, it is reported.

Unlike the thousands of recruits who have more than doubled ICE's ranks since Trump assumed office 12 months ago, Ross had been working for the enforcement agency since 2015, when he first moved to Minneapolis. Before this move, Ross had spent eight years working for the Border Patrol, where his role was to 'develop the targets, create a target package, surveillance, and then develop a plan to execute the arrest warrant', according to testimony obtained by Wired.

A 'Christian conservative'

Ross was described by family and friends as a hardcore Christian conservative who, like many in the movement, frequently sports 'don't tread on me' references and Trump stickers.

After reports emerged that Ross was married to someone of Filipino heritage, the 80-year-old father of the ICE agent told the Daily Mail that his wife is a US citizen and that the couple have been married since 2012, but he refused to say anything else.

With intense national scrutiny of what took place on Wednesday, several White House officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have cited a prior serious incident as a seemingly mitigating factor for the fatal shooting. In June 2025, Ross was dragged approximately 300 ft by a vehicle while carrying out an immigration arrest in Bloomingdale, Minnesota. The driver had refused to roll down his window, leading the veteran officer to smash his window in an attempt to unlock the door.

The BBC reports that as a result of the incident, Ross required a total of 33 stitches in his right arm and left hand and had to fill out a deposition in December, from which a lot of this information has been gleaned.

He described how lots of people appear 'confused' when they are stopped in their vehicle by masked armed agents.

His testimony reads: “I believe it's—it seems to be something that some people just—just say to—to stall.

“I believe a lot of time people are on the phone and they're waiting for people to get—to show up, especially with our line of work. They've got phone trees where they call and then protesters show up.”

President Donald Trump has allegedly asked the Joint Special Operations Command to 'draw up an invasion plan for Greenland', according to sources.

The Mail on Sunday reports that Trump has requested a 'plan' be made, but has been advised against military action by a number of his advisors.

It comes after the president doubled down on his insistence that the US must acquire the Arctic nation on Friday (January 9), as he met with oil and gas bosses to discuss the ongoing situation in Venezuela.

“We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not,” he told the meeting.

“If we don’t do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we’re not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor.” Trump then took things one step further as he added: “So we’re going to be doing something with Greenland, either the nice way or the more difficult way.”

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, one source claimed that some of Trump's advisors had warned him against military action.

The source said: “They have tried to distract Trump by talking about less controversial measures, such as intercepting Russian 'ghost' ships - a clandestine network of hundreds of vessels operated by Moscow to evade Western sanctions - or launching a strike on Iran.”

Meanwhile, another said the invasion would be the 'worst case scenario' and the 'destruction of NATO from the inside'. They said: “Some European officials suspect this is the real aim of the hardline MAGA faction around Trump.

“Since Congress would not allow Trump to exit NATO, occupying Greenland could force the Europeans to abandon NATO. If Trump wants to end NATO, this might be the most convenient way to do it.”

Should Trump decide to act, it would force NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to intervene and defend one of its members.

“If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have a NATO right now,” the president said. “But we’re not going to allow Russia or China to occupy Greenland, and that’s what’s going to happen if we don’t.” In response to Trump's comments, Greenland's prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has repeatedly rebuked the claims.

“Threats, pressure and talk of annexation have no place between friends,” said Nielsen.

“That is not how you speak to people who have shown responsibility, stability and loyalty time and again. Enough is enough. No more pressure. No more innuendo. No more fantasies about annexation.”

US President Donald Trump has been branded a 'child' after his latest comments about the Nobel Peace Prize.

It comes as the committee made its first ever statement on the rules surrounding the transferring of the Peace Prize, after Venezuelan opposition politician María Corina Machado made the surprising offer to hand her award over to the president.

The Nobel Committee has now clarified that the award cannot be 'revoked, shared, or transferred'.

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute receive a number of requests for comments regarding the permanence of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate’s status," the organization said on its website on Friday (January 9).

"The facts are clear and well established. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. The decision is final and stands for all time." Machado won the prestigious prize for her struggle to rescue the South American country from its fate as 'a brutal, authoritarian state'.

Her offer came after the January 3 raid on Venezuela's capital, which saw the country's leader, Nicolás Maduro, abducted and taken to New York City to stand trial.

In a recent interview, Trump suggested that he should have won the Nobel Peace Prize for the 'eight and a quarter' wars he says he has ended.

He told Fox News's Sean Hannity: “But you know, when you put out eight wars, in theory, you should get one for each war.

“It makes me feel so good. Not because of a Nobel Prize, but because I saved millions and millions of lives, and that's what really makes me feel good."

Hannity also asked Trump if he would accept the Nobel Peace Prize from Machado, with Trump responding: “Well, I understand she's coming in next week sometime, and I look forward to saying hello to her, and I've heard that she wants to do that. "That would be a great honor."

Some have since criticized Trump for his comments, with political commentator and influencer Harry Sisson writing: "This is so beyond humiliating for the United States.

"Trump won’t support Machado in Venezuela unless she gives him the Nobel Peace prize she won. HE IS A CHILD."

And someone said in response: "A brave woman wins the Nobel for helping liberate her country, and all he can think about is how it might end up on his mantel. The narcissism is bottomless." Machado spoke to Fox News about dedicating her award to Trump, explaining: "Let me be very clear. As soon as I learned that we had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, I dedicated [it] to Trump because I knew at that point, he deserved it.

"And lot of people, most people said it was impossible to achieve what he has just done on Saturday, 3 January.

"And so, I believe he deserved it. January 3 will go down in history as the day justice defeated tyranny. It’s a milestone, and it’s not only huge for the Venezuelan people and our future, I think it’s a huge step for humanity, for freedom, and human dignity."

With protests breaking out across Iran once again on Saturday night, as thousands took to the streets and called for an end to their country's authoritarian regime, a chilling threat has been made to the United States and Israel.

Thousands of people are believed to have been arrested in the anti-government demonstrations, which have been ongoing for the past two weeks, with activists reporting at least 116 dead amid a brutal crackdown from state police that has seen the internet switched off across the country.

Following last year's 12-day exchange of missiles between Israel and Iran, leaders in the Islamic Republic have issued a chilling warning to the US and its key ally in the region in the hopes of preventing an intervention on the side of the protesters.

The speaker of Iran's parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, warned that serving US military personnel would be 'legitimate targets' for reprisals if America gets involved in the disorder spreading across Iran - as threatened by President Trump. The threat against the US and its allies came on Saturday, as the unrest continued for its 14th day and after Trump took to social media to stir the pot, saying: "Iran is looking at FREEDOM, perhaps like never before."

He added that 'the USA stands ready to help', but with phone and internet lines down across Iran, it's not clear how much information from the outside world is getting in.

But in a televised parliamentary session, the speaker threatened a further crackdown against the populace, saying: “The people of Iran should know that we will deal with them in the most severe way and punish those who are arrested.”

He then looked further afield, adding: "In the event of an attack on Iran, both the occupied territory and all American military centres, bases and ships in the region will be our legitimate targets."

Qalibaf also warned that the state of Israel would be hit if the West intervenes on the side of protestors, after which politicians rushed the dais in the Iranian parliament and chanted 'Death to America!!' Thousands of people have been flooding the streets each night since December 28, employing numbers and household objects to fight back against security forces, with the few images coming out of Iran showing flaming wheelie bins and fires set in the street.

Adding to the repeat warnings, Qalibaf warned on Friday ahead of a weekend of protests: "The people of Iran should know that we will deal with them in the most severe way and punish those who are arrested.”

But both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have cited sources inside the White House that claim Trump is examining military options so the US can tip the scales to the protesters' advantage.

This has been reinforced by bullish rhetoric from different parts of the executive, with the State Department separately warning: "Do not play games with President Trump. When he says he’ll do something, he means it.”

According to PA, the final decision in Iran for a strike against US targets rests with the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, Trump weighs up yet another foreign intervention after Venezuela, just a fortnight into 2026.
